Identity theft is the practice of stealing someones personal information such as their bank details or credit card information and using it for financial gain. This is usually done by obtaining the persons login details, usually through email scams. Computer viruses are malicious code which can be used by criminals to enter into computer systems with the intention of doing harm to users or their information. Viruses can be used to gain access to information and files, or even take control or a computer system entirely. Phishing is the method of tricking you into giving out your personal and financial information. Criminals will create a fake website or email that looks genuine and can be hard to spot; they then use it to send you an email asking for your details such as credit card and bank account numbers. Cyber crime is becoming a growing threat that we need to be aware of. To protect ourselves, it is important to keep our computer up to date with the latest securitysoftware, use strong passwords for online accounts, be aware of email scams, and never give out personal information over the internet.
